India launches a nationwide Cell Broadcast emergency alert system
The Department of Telecommunications launched a Cell Broadcast System built by C-DOT with NDMA and the Ministry of Home Affairs. It pushes geo-targeted alerts to phones across 2G to 5G networks as priority pop-ups with a loud tone, supports multiple languages, and is designed to work even when networks are congested.
What it means
A government alert can now reach phones in an affected area within seconds. Make sure emergency alerts are switched on for every phone in your household, and treat an alert as a trigger in your emergency protocol.

Indian Army receives over 500 3D-printed concrete bunkers
Startup MiCoB reported delivering more than 500 blast-resistant bunkers to the Indian Army, printed in concrete for conditions from high-altitude snow to desert, with build times cut from about 45 days to under a week.
What it means
Concrete remains the material of choice for protective structures in India. Military field bunkers are built for fragments and direct fire, not for sealed living: a family shelter adds airtight construction, filtered air, cooling and weeks of supplies.

Border bunkers in Jammu and Kashmir: funds partly unspent
Reporting found that of ₹242 crore released by the Centre for bunkers in Jammu and Kashmir, almost half remained unspent. The programme dates to 2018–19, when 14,460 individual and community bunkers were sanctioned for residents along the Line of Control and the International Border.
What it means
Public shelter in India is concentrated in border districts. Most cities have no mapped public shelters, so protection elsewhere depends on private and community planning.

Bunker-busting bombs used against Iran's Fordow site
United States aircraft struck Iranian nuclear facilities including Fordow, an enrichment plant built deep inside a mountain, in the first known combat use of the 30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator.
What it means
No private shelter survives a deliberate strike with weapons like these. Private shelters protect against the wider effects of conflict, such as fallout, distant blast and toxic air, which is why we keep every shelter's location secret. See the limits of protection.

Operation Abhyaas: India's largest civil defence drill since 1971
The Ministry of Home Affairs and NDMA ran civil defence mock drills in 244 districts, testing air raid sirens, blackouts, shelter readiness and evacuation, after the Pahalgam attack of 22 April. The same day India launched Operation Sindoor; a ceasefire followed on 10 May.
What it means
Warning and response now get rehearsed at national scale. Households benefit from the same discipline: a written plan, agreed triggers and regular drills. Our family plan builder is free to use.
