Shelter classes

Four classes set the starting point: how many people, for how long, and how much protection. Every shelter is then designed for one site and the people it protects.

The four shelter classes side by side Section drawing of four buried shelters of increasing size: Haven for 2 to 4 people, Keep for 4 to 8, Citadel for 8 to 16 and Estate for 16 or more. Each has an entry shaft and an air intake; green dots show the people inside. Haven2–4 Keep4–8 Citadel8–16 Estate16+

Haven

2–4people
14 dayssealed autonomy

The essential fallout shelter. Compact and robust, built to carry a small family through the two weeks after a nuclear event, when fallout radiation falls by about 99.9%.

  • Essential NBC air system with hand-crank backup
  • Wipe-down decontamination zone
  • Escape hatch

Citadel

8–16people
90 dayssealed autonomy

Long-duration shelter for extended families, with redundant systems and higher blast resistance.

  • Twin air units and twin generators
  • Medical bay and communications room
  • Escape tunnel

Estate

16+people
180+ dayssealed autonomy

Fully bespoke facilities for estates, family offices and organisations, designed entirely around the brief.

  • Fully redundant air and power
  • Protected borewell
  • Multiple zones and exits

Specifications

Typical design targets. Final figures are set by our structural engineer after the site assessment and written into your contract.

RCC: reinforced cement concrete. 1 bar of blast overpressure is about 14.5 psi. Protection factor: how many times less radiation reaches people inside.

Scroll the table sideways on a phone. See engineering for what these numbers mean.

How many days do you need?

Fallout radiation drops fast, then slowly. For every sevenfold increase in time, it falls tenfold.

Why we only build custom

Prefabricated steel units are designed for one soil and one climate. India has dozens of soils, a monsoon, seismic zones and summers above 45°C.

Built for the ground

Clay near a river and Deccan rock need different waterproofing and structure. We design from a soil and groundwater test.

Built for the people

An elderly parent on oxygen, young children or staff all change the layout, power and supplies.

Built to stay hidden

A prefab unit arrives on a truck in daylight. A custom shelter is built as ordinary construction.

Options for any class

  • Safe room

A reinforced, filtered room within a building for intrusions, linked to the shelter.

  • Strongroom

A vault for documents and valuables inside the protected envelope.

  • Medical bay

Clinical lighting, medicine storage and power for an oxygen concentrator.

  • Communications room

Shielded receivers, licensed two-way radio and protected antennas.

  • Cover function

Finished as a cellar, gym, library or storeroom.

  • Longer escape tunnel

An exit further away, concealed in a garden or outbuilding.

  • Remote retreat

A shelter on remote land, such as a Himalayan valley, with long autonomy and road or helicopter access. Retreat shelters

  • Full component list

Every part, its standard, service life and lead time. Components
